As you may know by now, I have announced my candidacy to be a member of the Celebration Residential Owners Association (“CROA”) Board.

My wife, Sara, and I are founding residents and are currently homeowners in Artisan Park.

In 1996, I established the Celebration School Speech & Debate team that became national champions during my last 2 years on the faculty at CHS.

I helped design the Celebration School curriculum in AP Social Studies and Speech & Debate and served on the SAC Committee and faculty member at both Celebration School and CHS for 10 years.

I ran for Osceola County School Board in 1998 as the first County-Wide candidate from Celebration.

Later, I served as President of the Osceola County School Board Citizen Review Committee in charge of oversight of the sales tax for schools from 1999-2001.

I am a law professor with a J.D. from Georgetown and for the past 25 years I’ve operated my own internet-based business of preparing students to pass the bar exams in over 40 states, including Florida. I have taught FL Real Property, FL Constitutional Law, FL Business Law and many other subjects.

I have appeared on brief in several cases before the US Supreme Court.

My insight into the creation and development of Celebration along with my legal background give me the perspective and understanding to contribute to the continued challenges faced in our community.

I believe that my combination of experience and skills will be of particular value to CROA, as the next few years will be critical in the development of our community.

Some of the challenges include:

* proposed Community Center/Sports Complex

* development of the Island Village with its 1300 new homes south of the existing High School

* working relationship between CROA and the current management company, CCMC

* traffic and parking during special events and throughout Main Village

I also believe that the fiduciary duty of CROA must be to act as good stewards of the resources and funds that residents provide. Where possible, this means Requests for Proposals and an open-bid process on all major contracts and proposals.

Having owned a home in Main Village for over a decade, and later being a resident of Mirasol and the Terraces of Celebration prior to owing our single family home on Mosaic Drive in Artisan Park, I’ve learned to value the vision and needs of different service areas and their leadership in the community. CROA will have to continue to adapt and grow as these service areas mature and develop.

This will require CROA Board members to lead, listen and learn from residents in an open and transparent process. I am committed to carrying those values with me as a Board Member.

Voting for CROA begins online and by paper ballot on Monday Feb 5. Each housing unit will be allowed to vote for 4 candidates.

I am asking for your vote as 1 of the 4 candidates you select.

Polls close on Tuesday March 6 at 5:30 pm.

Thank you for your consideration of my candidacy. If you would like to speak with me and share your concerns and visions for Celebration, I may be reached at jackson.mumey@mac.com or by phone at 804.754.5659.
